China’s Cross-Border E-commerce is Experiencing Rapid Growth, with the Number of Users in South Korea Exceeding 10 Million

As per the Korea National Statistical Office(KNSO), the import volume of cross-border e-commerce in South Korea reached to 6.7567 trillion won (approximately 5.2 billion USD) in 2023, marking a 26.9% increase from the previous year. In terms of import sources, China’s import volume witnessed a significant surge of 121% year-on-year, amounting to 3.2873 trillion won (approximately 2.5 billion USD), which constitutes about 49% of the total. The United States, which has consistently held the top spot, saw a year-on-year decrease to 1.8574 trillion won (approximately 1.4 billion USD). For the first time, China has overtaken the United States to become South Korea’s largest source of cross-border e-commerce imports.

Data from WiseApp, a Korean APP analysis agency, reveals that in February 2024, the Chinese cross-border e-commerce apps Aliexpress and Temu had 8.18 million and 5.81 million active users in South Korea, respectively. These figures represent record highs, with the apps ranking second and fourth in the Korean e-commerce platform rankings.

韩国APP分析机构WiseApp数据显示:24年2月,Aliexpress、Temu中国跨境电商APP在韩国的活跃用户数分别为818万名、581万名,在韩国电商平台排行榜中占第二、第四,均为历史最高记录。



Alibaba plans to invest 1.1 billion USD in South Korea over the next three years.
